Dear Families, Friends and Alums of MHMS,

WELCOME TO OUR FIFTH GRADE FAMILIES

A special welcome to the Fifth Grade Families of SJES who will now be receiving our Newsletter. As you prepare for Middle School, we know it will be helpful to follow all of the events and activities at MHMS for the next few months.

THE BOSTON FALL CLASSIC SPEECH TOURNAMENT

We were happy to host The Boston Fall Classic Speech Tournament sponsored by the Rose Institute. You can read all about the tournament and the success of the MHMS team members who took first place in three out of the five categories. Thanks go out to all the parents who provided hospitality, served as judges and ambassadors and supported our students. It was a big undertaking but our students, our school and community were proudly displayed for all our visitors to see. Mr. Rose repeatedly compliments us for producing stellar students.

FEBRUARY FAST CASH

Last week we launched our winter fund raiser, February Fast Cash. We ask each family to sell or purchase $100.00 worth of raffle tickets. This is a great way to help us reach our goal and purchase gifts (STOCKING STUFFERS) for those on your list at home and in the office. Thanks for your usual support of our efforts!

HANUKKAH CLOSES

Tomorrow evening is the close of Hanukkah. We hope our Jewish families and friends enjoyed the Festival of Lights as we prayed for you and recognized the importance of the symbol of light for all people at this time of year.

HAPPY ADVENT

We began our celebration of Advent last week with Fr. Michael offering a reflection on the season and blessing the Advent Wreath.

Now with only two weeks to our Christmas vacation, we are reminding the students to take time out to stop, say a prayer and reflect on the great love God has for us by recognizing the great gift Jesus is to us. "God so loved the world, that He gave us His only Son, so that whoever believes in Him will not die, but have eternal life." John 3:16.

May the joy of this beautiful season of anticipation fill you with hope and excitement as we get closer to the celebration of the Nativity of the Lord.

8TH GRADE LIVE NATIVITY - DEC. 20, 1:30 PM

Please join us in the St. Joe's Upper Church on Thursday, December 20 at 1:30 pm for this very special Monsignor Haddad Middle School Tradition as the Eighth Grade Class presents their gift to the St. Joseph Parish and Schools community.

The Live Nativity is one of the most cherished traditions at MHMS and begins to bring the educational experience full circle as many of our students performed the Nativity as kindergartners in St. Joseph Elementary. You won't want to miss this beautiful pageant that reminds us all of the true reason for this holiday season.

Calling all 8th grade parents: We are preparing for the Live Nativity and can use your help. We are in need of 4-5 volunteers to help iron costumes once students have been fitted. Please contact Mrs. Coyle or Mrs. Corcoran to arrange a pick up time next week that is most convenient for you. All costumes will need to be returned to school by Tuesday, December 18.

Thank you very much for your help!- Mrs. Coyle & Mrs. Corcoran

  • Please note the new button links at the bottom of our newsletter that will take you directly to previous MHMS Newsletters and also SJES Newsletters. Word of mouth is one of the strongest marketing tools for both schools and we want both middle school and elementary school families to be familiar with happenings in both of our amazing schools.

  • Registration for Needham Girls Youth Lacrosse (NGYL) Spring 2018 season is now open through December 15th for girls in grades 1-8.  Programs vary by grade and include clinic, intramural and travel teams.  New players are welcome.  For more information and to register, please visit www.needhamlacrosse.com.

  • One month to go for the Anton's Coats for Kids coat drive and we are close to 250 coats! The coat drive will run through January 6, so we will continue to collect after Christmas break. Thanks to everyone who has contributed already. Please look in your closets for any coats you can donate in the collection bins in the Dining Room.

  • Pick a time:  Mr. MacDonald will have more dates available on Tuesday for 6th grade parents to meet over the next two weeks and into January.
