After School Activities
Something for everyone after the bell
Learning at Saint Joe's doesn't stop at the final bell. Our after school program offers athletics, interest clubs, and performing arts for every grade level, giving students room to try something new, build friendships across grades, and discover talents they didn't know they had.
Athletics
Our competitive and non-competitive teams build sportsmanship, teamwork, and a love of being active. Offerings vary by year and may include:
Cross Country · Fall · Grades 3–8
Runners build up to 1–3 miles and compete in local meets against other Catholic schools.
Field Hockey · Fall · Grades 5–8
Twice-weekly practices focus on skills, rules, and game experience, with scrimmages against local middle school teams.
Basketball · Winter · Grades 3–8
Teams play in the South Shore Parochial School League. The season runs from after Thanksgiving through February break, with playoffs to follow. Parents provide transportation to games.
Ski & Snowboard Club · Winter · Grades 5–8
Friday evenings in January and February. Bus transportation is provided; students can rent equipment or bring their own.
Volleyball · Spring · Grades 5–8
Teams compete against other Catholic schools during the spring season.
Interest Clubs
Clubs run in three sessions that line up with our academic trimesters: fall, winter, and spring. Offerings change each session based on student interest and moderator availability. Past clubs have included art, chess, and flag football.
Session dates and club offerings are shared with families before each session begins. Make-up dates are set by each club's moderator.
Performing Arts
Choir · Grades 3–8 · Free
Directed by Dr. Carlo Serrano, our choir leads the music at monthly First Friday liturgies and performs at prayer services, concerts, and assemblies. Rehearsals are Wednesdays from 2:40 to 3:20 pm in the Music Room. Registration opens each September.
Theatre: Saints Society Players · Grades 4–8
Now in more than 25 seasons, the Saints Society Players bring an age-appropriate musical to the stage each year. Directed by Mrs. Libby Spigelman and Mrs. Catherine Savard, students learn acting, singing, and basic dance while building confidence on stage. Sign-up details are shared with families each year.
Concert Band & Instrument Lessons
Led by Paul Effman Music, the band meets weekly for 30 minutes, followed by small-group lessons. Students perform at the Christmas Performance and Spring Concert. Private, semi-private, and beginner group lessons are offered for flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, and percussion, and instrument rentals can be arranged.
Speech & Debate
Speech & Debate Club · Grades 4–8
Led by Rose Debate Institute, our Speech & Debate Club helps students find their voice and build confidence as public speakers. Through lessons, games, speeches, and in-class presentations, students learn to research a topic, organize their ideas, and present them clearly, with opportunities to compete against other schools. New and returning students are welcome.
The club meets on campus Wednesdays from 2:45 to 4:00 pm. Session dates, tuition, and registration are available through Rose Debate Institute.
Every student has something to offer, on the field, on the stage, and everywhere in between.
